Best game I have EVER played as an adult, hands down.
I found this game looking for a break from some heavy deadlines. I am a producer and sound designer, and first. WOW The soundtrack by Tomas Dvorak is just a slice of heaven. It’s glitchy, ambient, and little gritty with beautiful synth sounds and flow. And, I mention it, because when the music is THIS good, you don’t mind just exploring, trying options, and clicking around until you figure out the right combination of things.
And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the beautiful hand drawn landscapes! How perfectly they match the music. You can really just listen and watch and admire this beautiful creation while the game is happening.
The puzzles are challenging enough where you need to be patient, which again, I didn’t mind since I loved the music and the drawings. And the game’s conflicts are focused on core emotions which makes it accesible. The fact that creatures only communicate in expression and thougth bubbles is one thing that makes it so delightful.
Honestly excited to follow Animata Design and keep trying thier other games. Botanicula was a psychedlic creative feast, but Machinarium to me has the best music!
